This is a children’s picture book structure break down for My Cousin MOMO by Zachariah OHora. This breakdown will contain spoilers.
Once upon a time:
(Pages 1-7) The kids have been anticipating the arrival of Cousin Momo, a flying squirrel. Everyone in the neighborhood welcomes his arrival but he seemed kind of shy.
Until one day:
(Pages 8-13) To break the ice, they decided to play games. Momo’s super hero outfit seemed kind of weird. They instead tried to play acorn-pong and then hide-and-seek, but again, Momo seemed out of place.
(Pages 14-19) The kids were not having fun with Momo. Momo had decided he was simply going to leave but the kids realized they had gone a little too far.
And because of this:
(Pages 20-28) The kids decided they would instead do things Momo’s way. They started to play a different variation of the previous game and enjoyed themselves. They were actually having a lot of fun doing things Momo’s way!
(Page 29) Now, the kids are counting the days until Momo comes back.
