(From 12-30-2012) Here’s a little bit of a before and after digital drawing. Typically I’d sketch out my idea on paper but this time I went ahead and did it using Manga Studio. I’ve been working with this program in the last few weeks. Now, while I’ve had issues trying to draw everything digitally, I do enjoy coloring digitally.
In this scene, I wanted Talbot to wake up in a messy room.
As you can see below, I’ve opened up Manga Studio and sketched out the basic layout of the page. Then I outlined the hard objects in the scene such as cabinets, bookshelves, bed etc. Once I have an idea where things will be, I start filling in all the details and placements of various objects. As I go along, I start to fill in the hard objects as well.
Notice the purple tentacle from the video game Maniac Mansion/Day of the Tentacle video game series?
Once digital inking is complete, I export the image to Photoshop where I color everything in. This process is pretty much straight forward using the following steps: Color in the flats, add shadows, add lighting source from the window. Then the final step is simply touching up various areas to finish the look.
And there you have it! Looks messy & colorful. Ha!
I’ll probably add something more to this before the project is complete, but at least you get a sneak look…
