This is a children’s picture book structure break down for Meg Goldberg on Parade by Andria Warmflash Rosenbaum and Christopher Lyles. This breakdown will contain spoilers.

Once upon a time:

(Pages 1-2) One Sunday, the Goldberg drove into the city to watch the Israel Parade.

Until one day:

(Pages 3-20) Meg was anticipating what she would see in the parade and imagined that she was part of it all.
She imagined walking next to the Mayor . Then she was floating over the children, tossing samples. She imagined holding the Israeli flag while the ladies danced to the beats down the street. She was part of the marching band and also a parade of animals.

And because of this:

(Pages 21-22) Until finally, it all ended. The parade was over.

(Pages 23-26) That night, Meg recounted all the things that happened and all the friends she had made.

(Page 27) When Mrs. Goldberg finally found some time to unwind, she discovers a gold crown on the chair (which was part of Meg’s imaginary adventure).
